Followed a random road...

Kinja'd!!!

Found the end of the line.

Kinja'd!!!

Had to back out for a bit . That kinda sucked.

Kinja'd!!!

Turned around a hundred yards down in the pull off for a trailhead.

Kinja'd!!!

There’s a fire watch up there behind the gate. A crazy solo cyclist hopped the gate while I was backing out. I guess the road is open to hikers/bicycles/horses. I’ll have to bring my bike up sometime and see where it goes.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Finished the drive scouting out a spot for my brother in law to park his camper in a couple weeks. It’s a small Airstream he pulls with an FJ Cruiser. Looks like most of the campers have vanished now that it’s gotten colder so he should have his pick of shaded spots under the pines along the canyons rim here.

Your Sunday drive was a lot more exciting than mine. All I did was go to Harbor Freight in the pouring rain

Kinja'd!!!

And I didn’t even buy anything. Gosh I’m getting old

I can relate to this.  Part of why I moved to the desert.  Not to many of those rainy days here.

I actually don’t mind the rain, I quite enjoy driving in wet weather. I contemplated going to the junkyard because it’s a lot less crowded during inclement weather, but I couldn’t think of anything I actually need at the moment. I did spot this beauty in the HF parking lot though:

I actually dropped a pin at that trailhead:  https://maps.apple.com/?ll=35.765017,-106.366856&q=Dome%20Parking&_ext=EiQpDmNmEOzhQUAxRsesk3qXWsA5DmNmEOzhQUBBRsesk3qXWsA%3D&t=m

Nice find. A guy I work with has an awesome 80 series same color with a 6.0 Vortec Max small block shoved in it. Quite the rig. The guy has a waxed mustache and dailies a diesel BMW 3-Series. The people out here in the sticks are quite the  characters.

It took me all of 5 seconds to recognize that as the Tilghman Square shopping plaza. Apparently PA strip malls can be distinctive .

That it is! It was the only Harbor Freight in the Lehigh Valley for years, until they opened one up in Quakertown and then another in Easton. I’ve been shopping at the one on Tilghman Street since 2001. Still have the first thing I ever bought there, a blue crowbar!

I never went to that Harbor Freight too frequently (or any of them, really). I used to go to the A&A Auto Parts for Anco Contour wiper blades and other things, and the Staples was the most convenient office supply store.

I remember when the Grocery Outlet was still an ACME.

Wow. Didn’t realize you were that far north. GF and I visited Bandalier last year— and she loved it.

Thanks!

Very interesting characters out here at the Airpark.  We’re about 200 miles due SW at the moment.  Perfect weather...  and a great place to ride out this week.

Exploring is some of the best fun you can have. Sadly I usually already have a destination in mind and am in too much of a rush

Sorry it was Apple Maps - I just had my iPhone on me and was like I should drop a quick pin without thinking to use one of the better apps I have on there. Yeah I’m closer to Colorado than any other state. Gets pretty cold up here - not what most of the US thinks of when they think New Mexico. Cool thing about living near a National Monument is all the trails are hiking only, no dogs allowed. As much as I love my pups and my mountain bike it is cool when you really want to get out to hike the Bandalier trails and not have to keep alert for bikes, horses, and dogs like you do in the national fores t.

Also, seriously jealous of the off- roading. I knew buying my 4WD Suburban would not mean I get to actually leave the urban jungle of Houston more often to use it, doesn’t mean I can’t dream.

I changed the fluid on both diffs and the transfer case this weekend, and had to drive around in a gravel lot just to put it in 4WD so I could make sure everything still functioned.

Yeah after that cold blast at the start of last week the weather throughout the Southwest has been pretty nice. Also yeah as someone who lived in Central/South Texas for many years surrounded by “Keep Austin Weird” bumper stickers, I say you don’t know how many truly weird people and things there are in this country until you spend some time in the mountain towns of NM, CO, AZ, NV, and W estern CA.

Lots of good dirt roads that a 4x4 Suburban can handle just fine to explore in TX though if you can find some time to get out - most of my experience is NW of SA - Castroville, Hondo, Yancey... that area. Pretty country with a lot of old dirt roads that link up all the family ranches.
